Summer Vacation, DNC, etc….
Posted under GeneralWell summer is almost over and this year that means the presidential election news is all the talk. The Democratic National Convention is here in Denver . From what I understand being downtown during this week is crazy. One media journalist I spoke with said that the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field (where the convention is being held) is roped of a whole square mile around it. Already, there has been security concerns raised with the arrest of three men the other day who apparently were driving around with sniper rifles, walkie talkies, bullet proof vests and ammo. All this and Barack Obama has yet to land in Denver. His speech and acceptance of the Democratic nomination is tomorrow night. I am an Obama supporter but you won’t find me anywhere near downtown. I’ll leave be happy just watching the speech from the comfort of my couch while the media swarms, protesters riot and the eyes of the world watch what’s going on just a few miles away.
I just got home this week from a nice vacation to Orlando, Florida. Our ten day trip was packed with touristy events such as Disney World(s), Sea World, Aquatica, Sarasota and Cocoa Beach. My girlfriend, her two sweet girls and I enjoyed a great time down there with her family. Hurricane Fay slowed us down a bit but really didn’t affect our trip too much. I will be adding a picture segment and post photos of the trip the next week or so.

“Typo Squatters, Cyber Squatters, Domain Squatters” - by Kyle the Moron (Monson)
Posted under FunnyI came across a disturbingly ignorant video while doing some research the other day. It seems that mainstreet media and pc worlds Kyle Monson like to go around calling domainers “squatters” for pursuing their business of choice. What is missing from the video is the fact that most people in the domain name industry are buying and selling purely generic domain names that nobody has rights besides the registrant. Many people relate this industry to real estate.
Here is an analogy; Let’s say you registered the generic domain pokerchips.com years ago with the foresight that it has potential to be quite valuable. This is a prime generic .com domain, it can be compared to owning a piece of land in a high traffic area (ie.. downtown Denver). What you decide to do your domain or land is up to you. If you do not develop the land but simply monetize it by putting up billboards on it do you get called out as a “land squatter” by neighboring businesses? I have never heard this term. Then why are people calling domainers “cyber squatters” for not developing their prime internet real estate? It may not be of interest for a business or domainer that owns a domain to develop that particular domain at that time, but it doesn’t mean they should give up rights to it and lose out on profits.
The video by WNBC spurred a retaliatory spoof site a fellow domainer put up that I must link to: http://www.moronspot.com/

Aftermarket Sales and ROI
Posted under Domain Names, NewsI have really been heating up in the domain aftermarket recently. I am making a lot more quick flips for good ROI. While browsing auctions and sales I am keeping my eyes peeled for deals which I can quickly capitalize on. My ROI percentages lately are quite nice. I look for domains which I am sure can bring in at minimum 300% ROI. My best ROI on a domain this month cleared 2000% return after paypal fees.
ROI is Calculated: [(Payback - Investment)/Investment)]*100
One of my goals is to continue doing this in volume and move up in investment size. I feel quite confident in my ability to spot a deal, move in on it with assurance that it can bring in immediate profit. The biggest returns come from selling to an end user, in which case you are always going to expect huge ROI percentages. Most of my recent flips are to resellers like myself. I have been able to buy at rock bottom and resell to resellers at nice ROI in todays domain aftermarket.
